What is measured

Overall length runs from the end of the body to the tip of the headstock. The figures here come from a guitar-spec website and from two vintage guitars measured by a dealer. They range from 38.75 to 39.5 in (98 to 100 cm). The body is about 12.5 to 12.9 in (32 to 33 cm) wide at the lower bout and about 1.75 in (4.4 cm) thick.[2][3][4][5]

Scale length

Scale length is the vibrating length of the string, from the nut to the bridge saddle. The Stratocaster's scale length is 25.5 in (648 mm). Both measured vintage guitars from 1979 and 1980 also list a 25 1/2 in scale. Fender has made the model continuously since the first one went on sale in 1954.[1][4][5]
